Wheeler JSS ROCC (1984-Active) - A Cold War JSS System Regional Operations Control Center first established in 1984 on Wheeler Air Force Base, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii. Now an active NORAD Regional Air Operations Center (RAOC) center on Wheeler Army Airfield. Wheeler JSS ROCCEstablished in 1984 and became operational in early 1984 as Wheeler JSS Regional Operations Control Center (ROCC) using the FYQ-93 computer system. Wheeler SOCCOn 1 Oct 1986, the name and acronym for the control center changed from Regional Operations Control Center (ROCC) to Sector Operations Control Center (SOCC). The controlled area was identified as the Hawaiian Air Defense Sector (HADS). The Wheeler JSS Regional Operations Control Center remained operational manned by the Hawaii Air National Guard, still using the FYQ-93 computers. On 1 Nov 1991 Wheeler Air Force Base was turned over operationally to the U.S. Army and became Wheeler Army Airfield (Wheeler AAF). Wheeler RAOCThe Wheeler JSS Sector Operations Control Center remained operational manned by the Hawaii Air National Guard, using the FYQ-93 computers, until the BCS-F (FYQ-156) system was installed circa 2006. About this time the name and acronym for the control center changed from Sector Operations Control Center (SOCC) to Regional Air Operations Center (RAOC). Current StatusThe RAOC is currently operated by active Hawaii Air National Guard members of the 169th AC&W Squadron. Inputs to the command center include radar data from an FPS-117 minimally attended radar site at Kokee Air Force Station (H-02), ARSR-4 Radar at Kaala Air Force Station (H-01) and other sensors. Data is exchanged with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, the United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
