In late November 1855, Oregon Territorial Governor George Curry (1820-1878) ordered units of the Oregon Mounted Volunteers to march on the Walla Walla Country where they fought the Battle of Frenchtown / Walla Walla. Also known as the start of the Indian battles of 1855 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Kelly.
