Oblong Redoubt (1776-1776) - A Patriot Revolutionary War Fort established in 1776 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. Captured and destroyed by the British in 1776. Also known as the Ring Fort.
History of Oblong Redoubt
Established in the spring of 1776 as Patriot circular redoubt on a hill to the left of Fort Greene.
The Oblong Redoubt was captured and destroyed by the British in August of 1776.
The site of the Oblong Redoubt was reused during the War of 1812 for Fort Cummings.
Current Status
Unmarked site, said to have been located on a hill at De Kalb Avenue and Hudson Avenue.
