Andrew Talcott (1797-1890) - Born 22 Apr 1797, Glastonbury, Connecticut, died 22 April, 1890, Richmond, Virginia.
Talcott graduated second in class West Point, 1818; Engineers. He was garrisoned at Fort Atkinson, explored passage to Fort Snelling, 1820; started construction at Fort Adams, RI, 1824; Superintending Engineer for construction on Hampton Roads at Fort Calhoun and Fort Monroe; surveyed Ohio-Michigan border, spring 1835 (with Lee);Capt., resigned commission, 1836;
U.S. Civil War
Col. and State Engineer of Virginia (under Lee), charged with Richmond, James river coastal defense, 1861.
Arrested in New York, March 1863, held at Fort Warren Died 22 April, 1890(1883), Richmond, VA, buried Hollywood Cemetery, Richmomd, VA.
