Mexican War (1846-1848) - A Mexican attack on American troops along the southern border of Texas on 25 Apr 1846 began the war between Mexico and the United States. Gen. Winfield Scott occupied Mexico City on 14 Sep 1847 and the fighting ended. A peace treaty was signed 2 Feb 1848 at Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty recognized the U.S. annexation of Texas and Mexico ceded California and New Mexico to the United States.
