Fort Columbia (1896-1947) - Built for harbor defense at the mouth of the Columbia River between 1896 and 1904. The fort was fully manned and operational through three wars and closed in 1947. The site is now a state park with 12 historic wood-frame buildings still standing and numerous gun emplacements. One of the few intact coastal defense sites in the United States.

Location: Located two miles west of the Astoria Bridge on Hwy. 101 in Chinook, Pacific County, Washington.
