Washington DC Defense System - U.S. Civil War
- List of Forts - A ring of 68 "Circle Forts" scattered around the capital city's perimeter were erected early in the U.S. Civil War to protect Washington, D.C. from the threat of Confederate assault. This ring included fortifications in Virginia and Maryland as well as Washington DC.
