Camp Curry (WA)

In late November 1855, Oregon Territorial Governor George Curry (1820-1878) ordered units of the Oregon Mounted Volunteers to march on the Walla Walla Country where they fought the Battle of Frenchtown / Walla Walla. Also known as the start of the Indian battles of 1855 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Kelly. After fighting at Fort_Bennett they abandoned the smelly, muddy and bloody "Fort" and moved a couple miles up Mill Creek to find good winter grazing. They spent a miserable winter in this area, having to move several times for better forage.

In 1865 another camp was named for him Camp_Curryin Harney County, Oregon
