Fort Gilleland
Fort Gilleland (1835-1842) - A U.S. Army post established in 1835 by Bvt Major James A, Ashby, 2nd U.S. Dragoons], in Newnansville, Alachua County, Florida. Probably named for Captain Lewellen Gilleland, U.S. Army, before he was killed by Indians 4 Jun 1837. Abandoned in 1842.
