Fort Elizabeth Meagher (1867-1867) - Established in the spring of 1867 by the Montana Territory Militia in response to the killing of John Bozeman. Named for the wife of a former acting Governor of the Montana Territory, Thomas Francis Meagher who drowned 1 Jul 1867 near Fort Benton Montana.¹ ²

Current Status

Only a historical marker remains.
