March JSS ROCC
March JSS ROCC (1984-1995) - A Cold War JSS System Operations Control Center first established in 1984 on March Air Force Base, Riverside, Riverside County, California. Deactivated as a JSS Regional Operations Control Center in 1995.
March JSS Regional Operations Control Center (ROCC)
Established and became operational in 1984 as March JSS Regional Operations Control Center.
On 1 Oct 1986 the acronym for the command center changed from Regional Operations Control Center (ROCC) to Sector Operations Control Center (SOCC) usually appended with the region identifier like "SW-SOCC" for the Southwest SOCC at March AFB. The controlled area was identified as the Southwest Air Defense Sector (SWADS).
On 1 Oct 1990, the four remaining JSS Control Centers were transferred to the Air National Guard in the states where they resided. The Guard units assigned provided maintenance and operations for the facilities, operational control remained with First Air Force but a new command element was introduced because the state Air National Guard units were under the command of the respective governors.
The March JSS Regional Operations Control Center remained operational manned by the California Air National Guard, still using the FYQ-93 computers, until deactivated on 31 December 1994. On 1 Jan 1995, the Northwest Air Defense Sector at McChord AFB assumed control of most of the western half of the U.S. and became the Western Air Defense Sector (WADS).
Building 602 has been repurposed on March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County, California.
