Camp Burnside (1862-1862) - A temporary U.S. Civil War Camp established in the fall of 1862 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Named Camp Burnside in Iowa GO 84, 11 Aug 1862, after Union Major General Ambrose Burnside (Cullum 1348). Abandoned later in 1862.

History
A temporary U.S. Civil War recruiting and assembly post established in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Served as a rendezvous camp for the 23rd Infantry and the 39th Infantry, with most of their members from Polk, Story, and Dallas counties, Camp Burnside was active for a short period during the fall of 1862.
Current Status
Monument located in Redhead Park at East 18th and Dean Streets in Des Moines.
