Battery 405 (1944-1945) - Battery 405 was a reinforced concrete, World War II 8 inch coastal gun battery on Fort Hase, Honolulu County, Hawaii. Battery construction started in early 1943, was completed in early 1944 at an estimated cost of $ 283,850. Known as Battery 405 during the war after the construction number BCN 405. After the war renamed Battery Robert E. DeMerritt by G.O. 96, 27 Aug 1946. Placed in caretaker status in 1945.
World War II
Part of the Harbor Defense of Kaneohe Bay.
Originally built as a World War II concrete coastal gun battery with two 8" Mark VI M3A2 guns mounted on M1 Barbette Carriages (BC) placed on a hillside with the magazines built into tunnels. Power was supplied by internal generators and commercial power.
