Fort Pierce (1838-1842) - A palmetto log blockhouse erected on 2 Jan 1838 and probably named after its first commander, Lt. Col. Benjamin K. Pierce. Was decommissioned in 1842 and burned to the ground in 1843. Replaced by Fort Capron.
Location: Located on the Indian River four miles south of the old Indian River Inlet.
