6th Illinois Volunteer Infantry (1898-1898) - Organized and mustered irito the-.service of the United States at Springfield, Ill., May 11, 1898, with 50 officers and 973 enlisted men.

    • assigned to Second Brigade, First Division, Second Army Corps
  • Movements:
    • Left Springfield May 17; arrived at Camp Alger, Va., May 20
    • Left Camp Alger July 5; arrived at Charleston, S. C., July 6
    • Sailed from Charleston July 10; arrived at Santiago, Cuba, July 15
    • Left Santiago July 21; arrived at Guanica, P. R. July 25
    • Participated in Porto Rican campaign and in engagement near Guanica July 26
    • Left Ponce, P. R. September 7; arrived at New York City September 13, and at Springfield, Ill., September 16
    • Furloughed for sixty days.


Mustered out at Springfield, Ill., November 25, 1898, with 49 officers and 1,224 enlisted men. Casualties while in service: Officers-died of disease, 2. Enlisted men-died of disease, 22; deserted, 1.
