Andrew Jackson Smith (1815-1897) - Born 28 Apr 1815 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. A career U.S. Army officer and graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. Died 30 Jan 1897 in St. Louis, Missouri.

He entered the United States Military Academy 1 Jul 1834 and graduated 1 Jul 1838 in the Class of 1838 ranking 36th out of 45.
He served in the Mexican War (1847-1848), the Rogue River Indian War (1855-1856) and the U.S. Civil War (1861-1865).
He resigned his commission 6 May 1869 to become the U.S. Postmaster of St. Louis, Missouri. He was reappointed Colonel of Cavalry 22 Jan 1889 and placed on the retired list.
He died 28 Jan 1897 in St. Louis, Missouri and was buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis.
