Established on 26 Oct 1849 in response to hostile Indian attacks in the area. The site was on high ground near the confluence of Paynes Creek and the Peace River and near the Kennedy-Darling trading post. Abandoned on 18 Jul 1850 because of the poor health conditions on the site.
The fort site has no structures and just a few markers to indicate the blockhouse location. Part of Paynes Creek Historic State Park, Hardee County, Florida. The visitor center is currently open Thursday through Monday, 9-5.
