Fort Lajitas (1915-1920) - A World War I era fort established in 1915 in Lajitas, Brewster County, Texas. Initially established to counter elements of the Mexican Revolution who were raiding across the border. Abandoned in 1920.

History of Fort Lajitas

Established in 1915 as a U.S. Army post to counter elements of the Mexican Revolution who were raiding across the border. The camp was constructed as a temporary facility with few permanent structures. Used to guard the border during World War I.

Abandoned in 1920.

Current Status

Cavalry Post Marker

No visible remains, just markers. The Cavalry Post Motel is reportedly built on the foundation of the post.
