HistoryBuilt as a triangular log and earthworks fortification across the strategic Graveyard Road entrance into Vicksburg from the northeast. From the beginning of Union General Ulysses S. Grant's attack on Vicksburg the Stockade Redan was under heavy bombardment and attack from Union forces.
