Nanaimo Bastion (1853-1862) - A Hudson's Bay Company bastion first established in 1853 at present day Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Abandoned in 1862.
History of Nanaimo BastionEstablished by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1853 as an octagonal three story bastion. Used as an office, arsenal and storage area as well as a safe haven for company personnel and settlers during periods of conflict. The Hudson's Bay Company sold the post in 1862 to a coal mining company. Current StatusWell preserved bastion in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Moved from the original location across the street. Preserved and restored.
