John P. Center (1821-1837) - Born February 1821 in Massachusetts. Served and died in the Second Seminole War, 25 Dec 1837.
He entered the United States Military Academy 1 Jul 1829 and graduated in the Class of 1833 ranking 30th out of 43. Adjutant, 6th U.S. Infantry, was one of four officers killed on Christmas day, 1837, while advancing against hostile Seminole Indians at the battle of Okee-cho-bee, Florida. Buried at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. Battery Center at Fort McRee, Florida, is named after him.
