Fort Lavaca

Fort Lavaca (1862-1863) - A Confederate post established during the U.S. Civil War in 1862 at Port Lavaca, Calhoun County, Texas. The guns were removed to Fort Esperanza and the post was abandoned in 1863. Major D.D. Shea and the 4th Battalion of the Texas Artillery garrisoned the post in 1862. The guns were removed to Fort Esperanza and the post was abandoned in 1863. Union forces occupied the town from December 1863 through the end of the war.
