Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville (1661-1706) - Born 16 Jul 1661 in Ville-Marie, New France. D'Iberville was a soldier, ship captain, explorer, colonial administrator, adventurer, privateer, trader and founder of the French colony of Louisiana of New France. He died 9 Jul 1706, of Yellow Fever in Havana, Cuba. Also known as Sieur d'Iberville.



  • 1690 Second in command of the Canadian war party that destroyed Schenectady, New York.
  • 1694 Captured Fort Nelson in Hudson Bay and renamed it Fort Bourbon.
  • 1696 Captured Fort Pemaquid in Maine and all the English settlements on the coast of Newfoundland.
  • 1697 Defeated the HBC ships Hudson's Bay, Hampshire, and Dering, captured and burned Fort Nelson.
  • 1699 First Voyage to Louisiana - Located the mouth of the Mississippi and built Fort Biloxi
