Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) - A British trading firm that is the oldest commercial corporation in North America. Incorporated in England in 1670 and now domiciled in Canada. The company merged with the North West Company in July 1821 and the combined company took the name of the Hudson's Bay Company. The combined company included 97 trading posts from the North West Company and 76 from the Hudson's Bay Company. The company dominated the early trading in the United States and Canada, especially the fur trade.
