| '''Fort Clatsop (1805-1806)''' - This fort was the first military establishment to be built in Oregon. It served [[Meriwether Lewis|Lewis]] and [[William Clark|Clark]] and the 33-member Corps of Discovery as winter quarters in 1805-06 as seven cabins surrounded by a 50 ft square stockade . The party left the fort on 23 Mar 1806.

| The fort was reconstructed in 1955 on the original site and is now Fort Clatsop National Memorial Park soon to be integrated into the Lewis & Clark National Historical Park.

| Volunteer firefighters worked for hours to try to save Fort Clatsop at the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park after the fire broke out Monday night, park superintendent Chip Jenkins said. But "half of the fort was burned up, and the other half is essentially a loss," he said.
| |
|
| |
| A cause for the fire has not yet been determined, but Jenkins said there was no electricity or gas source in the fort.

|
| |
| "It is essentially a log shell," he said. Fire investigators began looking for the cause of the blaze on Tuesday morning."
