Battery Spanish War (1900-1910) - Battery Spanish War was an emergency, Endicott Period, 8 inch coastal gun battery on Fort Mason (2), San Francisco County, California. Battery construction started in 1898, was completed in 1898 and transferred to the Coast Artillery for use 1 Jun 1900 at a cost of $ 1,225.55. Deactivated in 1910.
Endicott Period (1890-1910)Part of the Harbor Defense of San Francisco. Originally built as an emergency Endicott Period coastal gun battery with two 8" Modified Rodman rifles mounted on iron Rodman carriages. This battery was just two concrete pads with a center pintle mount for a Rodman carriage and a protective concrete traverse fronted with earth. The battery was completed and accepted for service in 1900, well after the emergency was over. The RCBs for 1903 and 1909 show both concrete mounts in place with two iron carriages but only a single rifle mounted. Current StatusNo period guns or carriages in place.
