Henry C. Merriam (1837-1912) - Born 13 Nov 1837 in Houlton, Maine. Career U.S. Army officer and Medal of Honor winner, Brigadier General. Died 12 Nov 1912 in Portland, Maine.  Served in the U.S. Civil War at Antietam and the siege of Port Hudson. He earned the Medal of Honor at Fort Blakeley, Baldwin County, Alabama, on 9 Apr 1865. After the war, Major Merriman served at posts in the west during the Indian Wars. He supervised the construction of several posts including Camp Chelan and Fort Spokane (2) in the Washington Territory and he commanded Fort Colville from 1880 to 1882.
