Eleazer Derby Wood (1783-1814) - Born in December 1783 in Lunenburg, Massachusetts. A career U.S. Army officer and engineer who served during the War of 1812 and died 17 Sep 1814, as the result of wounds received while on a sortie from Fort Erie.

He entered the United States Military Academy 17 May 1805 and graduated 30 Oct 1806 in the Class of 1806 ranking 7th out of 15.

He served in the Corps of Engineers in the construction of the defenses of Governor's Island, Fort Norfolk and Fort Nelson.

He served in the War of 1812 in the defense of Fort Meigs and the actions at Fort Erie rising to the rank of Bvt Lieutenant Colonel. He was mortally wounded while on a sortie outside Fort Erie and died on 17 Sep 1814.
