Battery Lewis (1897-1920) - Battery Lewis was built at Fort Stevens between Sep 1896 and Apr 1898 and was transferred for service 3,5 Apr 1898. Originally one of three set of emplacements called West Battery. In 1900 Battery Lewis was renamed for Capt. Meriwether Lewis, of the Lewis & Clark Expedition.
