Fort Defiance (16) (1794-1794) - A Fort established in May 1794 by General Elijah Clarke near Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia. This fort was one of at least six forts erected by General Clarke and his followers in an attempt to set up a state of their own, known as the "Trans-Oconee Republic", on lands reserved for the Creek Indians. Abandoned later in September 1794 and ordered destroyed by the State of Georgia. Fort Defiance Marker in Milledgeville.
