Camp Pendleton (2) (1942-Present) - A U.S. Marine Corps training camp established in 1942 during World War II in San Diego County, California. Named for Major General Joseph Henry Pendleton. Active military installation. Also known as Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

Camp Pendleton (2) History

Established during World War II on the Coast of California as a 122,798 acre training base for the U.S. Marine Corps. Construction began in April 1942 with temporary World War II construction. The camp was dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on 25 Sep 1942.

The post trained Marines for duty during Korean War, the Vietnam War and other Cold War conflicts. Training continues for Marines involved in the War on Terror conflicts.

Current Status

Active military installation in San Diego County, California.

Within the confines of Camp Pendleton there are a number of internal training camps, sites, airfields and amphibious landing areas including:
