Battle of Fort Sumter (12 Apr 1861-14 Apr 1861) - A U.S. Civil War Battle fought between Union forces under Major Robert Anderson, (Cullum 406), 1st U.S. Artillery, and Confederate forces under Brigadier General P.G.T. Beauregard, CSA, (Cullum 942). Known by Union forces as the Battle of Fort Sumter, known by Confederate forces as the same. A Confederate victory resulted, Fort Sumter was captured and held for most of the remainder of the war.

Current Status

Since 1948, Fort Sumter National Historic Monument in Charleston Harbor, Charleston County, South Carolina.
