Yamasee War (1715-1717) - Started 15 Apr 1715 with an attack on a government delegation sent to address Yamasee grievances. The Yamasee were joined by other tribes in a general uprising. Losses on both sides were high and the South Carolina trading population was hard hit as were the Yamasee. The conflict ended about 1717 when the Cherokee sided with the colonists against the Creeks.

As a result of the war the South Carolina government established several forts along the trading paths. These forts were garrisoned by paid soldiers.
