History of Houston's FortA settler fortification established in 1785 and located on Little Nine Mile Creek south of present day Maryville, Tennessee. From this fort John Sevier led 160 horsemen against Cherokee towns in 1788 after 31 men from the fort were killed by the Cherokee. About 100 Indians then attacked the fort. They were driven off by the garrison, which included some of the frontier's best shots. Not known when the fort was abandoned as a fortification. Current StatusMarker only, no remains.
