MPS-11 Medium Range Search Radar Set - A Medium Range mobile Search Radar set built by General Electric. The MPS-11 provides medium range early warning and detection of aircraft. The output of the radar set is displayed on six identical plan position indicators (PPI) and operators use the display to identify and track potential targets. Once an enemy target is identified, the display is used to guide an interceptor aircraft to the target. A manual plotting board is used to provide an overall view of the airspace and the situation to battle commanders. The MPS-11 is the mobile version of FPS-8.
