Fort Montgomery (1) History
Established to protect a chain barrier built across the Hudson River to prevent British naval forces from sailing upriver and threatening West Point. It was attacked and destroyed by the British on 6 Oct 1777 after a fierce battle.
Current Status
Fort Montgomery State Historic Site.
