Nathaniel Lyon (1818-1861) - Born 14 Jul 1818 in Ashford, Connecticut. Died 10 Aug 1861, at the battle of Wilson's Creek, Springfield, Missouri, during the U.S. Civil War.
He entered the United States Military Academy and graduated in the Class of 1841 ranking 11th out of 52 graduates.
Nathaniel Lyon had three forts and numerous counties named after him:
- Fort Lyon (1) A coastal Fort in Maine
- Fort Lyon (2) A Colorado Fort
