Alexander Ramsay Thompson (1793-1837) - Born 10 Feb 1793 in New York. A career U.S. Army infantry officer who served in the War of 1812 and the Second Seminole War. Died 25 Dec 1837 in action at the battle of Okeechobee.
He entered the United States Military Academy on 21 Nov 1810 and graduated two years later in the Class of 1812 ranking 4th out of 18.
He served in the War of 1812 on the northern frontier and after that war he served at numerous frontier posts and achieved the rank of Major, 6th U.S. Infantry.
He served in the Second Seminole War and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel on 6 Sep 1837. On 25 Dec 1837 he was killed at the battle of Okeechobee, at the head of the 6th U.S. Infantry Regiment in a charge against the hostile Seminole Indians.
Lieutenant Colonel Thompson was buried in West Point Cemetery at the United States Military Academy.
