Columbia Arsenal (1) History

Established as a state arsenal circa 1850 and used by the Confederate Ordnance Department during the U.S. Civil War. The Arsenal was destroyed in February 1865 when General Sherman burned down most of Columbia. The arsenal was rebuilt after the war and continued in operation operations until about 1910.
