Fort Maison Rouge (1817-1821) - A pirate fort established by Jean Lafitte in 1817 in present day Galveston in Galveston County, Texas. Abandoned in 1821.
Fort Maison Rouge History
Fort Maison Rouge was pirate Jean Lafitte home and fort. It was armed with 36-pound cannons inside and a battery of 42-pounders outside. He was asked to leave the country in 1821 and he burned his home and fort when he left.
Current Status
A marker and some remains of the foundation and basement. On private property in Galveston, Galveston County, Texas.
