White River War (1879-1880) - Started 29 Sep 1879 at the White River Agency in Colorado with a conflict between the U.S. Army and the Ute Indian tribe. Ended 1880 with a treaty that removed most of the Utes to reservations in Utah.

Fort Crawford was established in 1880 to enforce the treaty and to protect the Utes from angry settlers.

Significant events:

  • Meeker Massacre - 29 Sep 1879
  • Battle of Milk Creek - 29 Sep 1879 to 8 Oct 1879
