Key West Barracks
Key West Barracks (1831-1947) - First established 2 Jan 1831 by Company H, 4th U.S. Infantry as a United States Barracks on the west side of Key West, Florida. This post was repeatedly abandoned and re-garrisoned over the years and finally declared surplus on 22 Jul 1947.
Key West Barracks History
Established in 1831 and served primarily as a garrison for Fort Taylor (2). Sporadically garrisoned during the construction of Fort Taylor (2) (1831-1866) and the U.S. Civil War (1861-1865). Continuously garrisoned from 1893 until 1947 in support of the Coastal Artillery batteries.
