Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (2 Feb 1848) - The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was a treaty between Mexico and United States signed in Guadalupe Hidalgo ending the Mexican War (1846-1848). Ratification: U.S. Senate vote of 38 to 14 on 10 Mar 1848. Mexico through a legislative vote of 51 to 34 and a Senate vote of 33 to 4, on 19 May 1848. Officially proclaimed on 4 Jul 1848. All or parts of 10 U.S. states were formed from the land ceded by Mexico in the treaty. The Gadsden Purchase in 1853 added the present day lower parts of New Mexico and Arizona to the lands obtained from Mexico. The exact borders were surveyed and laid out by a series of boundary commissions.
