Fort Christina (1638–) - A Swedish Colonial fort established in 1638 near Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware. Named Fort Christina, properly Fort Kristina in the original Swedish, after Queen Christina of Sweden. The fort was also briefly called Fort Altena.

History of Fort Christina

Established in 1638. Surrendered by Governor Rysingh to the Dutch under Stuyvesant in September, 1655 (details of the action and surrender are given in Carson, "Dutch and Swedish Settlements on the Delaware", PaMHB:13‑15).

Current Status

No remains. Site marked by a black granite monument.
