More information at Warlike and Wikipedia Fort Defiance (10) (1832-1832) - A Black Hawk War settler Fort established in 1832 near Mineral Point, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. Abandoned as a fortification at the end of the war in 1832. History of Fort Defiance Established as a settler defense during the Black Hawk War in 1832. Garrisoned with about forty militia men. The fort was 80' by 120' long and 18' high enclosed with a sharply pointed palisade of heavy timbers set face to face. Two blockhouses were located at opposing stockade angles. Inside the fort were two buildings for the garrison and families of settlers in case of attack. The fort stood on a hill about 300 yards east of where the roadside marker stands today. The fort never came under direct attack and was abandoned as a fortification at the end of the war later in 1832.
