Fort Thompson (3) (1838-1842, 1854-1855) - A U.S. Army post established in 1838 during the Second Seminole War on the Caloosahatchee River in Glades County, Florida. Named for Lieutenant Colonel Alexander R. Thompson, 6th U.S. Infantry, who was killed in the Battle of Okeechobee, 25 Dec 1837. The post was abandoned after the Second Seminole War and rebuilt for the Third Seminole War, finally abandoned in 1855.
