The twin lights had been the site of early radar testing in 1939 and the location of a [[World War II]] radar installation. The radar site was moved to a second location still on the Highlands Military Reservation circa 1953.

Cold War (1947–1991)

In 1948 the U.S. Air Force (USAF) established the Twin Lights Lashup Radar Site L-12 adjacent to the historic twin lights on the Highlands Military Reservation. The twin lights had been the site of early radar testing in 1939 and the location of a World War II radar installation. The radar site was moved to a second location still on the Highlands Military Reservation circa 1953.
