Owl's Nest Fort (1778-1779) - A British Revolutionary War Fort established in 1778 on Gould Island, Newport County, Rhode Island. Abandoned in 1779.

History of Owl's Nest Fort

A British Revolutionary War fort established in 1778 on Gould Island in Narragansett Bay. At some point the fort seems to have been occupied by Patriots since it was said to have covered the retreat of the Patriots on 30 Aug 1778 along with Fort Barton.

Abandoned in 1779.

Current Status

No remains, the island is currently owned by the Audubon society and is a protected nesting site for a variety of species of birds.
