Battery Worcester (1941-1947) - Battery Worcester was a reinforced concrete, World War II 6 inch coastal gun battery on Fort Story, Virginia. Battery construction started 15 Nov 1940, was completed 1 Apr 1941 and transferred to the Coast Artillery for use 23 May 1940 at a cost of $ 76,237.00. Deactivated in 1947. Originally known as Battery 224.

Battery Worcester

World War II

Part of the Harbor Defense of Chesapeake Bay.

Originally built as a prototype World War II concrete coastal gun battery with two 6" M1900 rapid fire guns mounted on M1900 Barbette Carriages (BC) placed on either side of an earth covered reinforced concrete support structure. This battery was the prototype battery for the standard 200 series batteries that followed.
