Fort Scaggs (1861-1865) - A Union U.S. Civil War Fort established in 1861 in Northeast Washington DC. The fort was never completed and the works were abandoned in 1865 at the end of the war. Also known as Fort Craven (1) and Fort of Circular Form,

History of Fort Scaggs

One of the ring of Union fortifications surrounding Washington DC during the U.S. Civil War, see Washington DC Fort Ring.

Established in August 1861 as a circular earthwork but was never completed or armed.

The unfinished fort was abandoned in 1865 at the end of the war.

Current Status

No remains, no markers.
